This song is about how people can be shaped by their childhood. If you are familiar with the term “Product of your environment”, it is about that. Meaning people raised in a bad place often do bad things, people raised in a good place often do good things. But it also talks about the opposite, where people who were raised in a bad place go on to do great things etc etc. Mostly it is about not judging people by their upbringing, and about making the most of every opportunity you have to do great things.

LYRICS
The product of an environment bereft
of lucid ambitions, beyond how best to forget
the pain of the trappings of the passionless,
can soon resolve dead ends when primed for focused quests.
(hand that’s dealt)
The product of an environment indulged
in fiscal excess, can also come to know
the pain of the life of the misdirected.
Spoilt for choice does not mean the choice is right for them.
(hand that’s dealt)
(chorus)
Hand that’s dealt
Best play to win, for you’ll lose if views are removed from the truths
Of the hand that’s dealt
For a poker face is better off replaced with lucid honest traits
Of the hand that’s dealt
For the luck of the draw equates more to the partial, than to the all
Of the hand that’s dealt
For a poker face is better off replaced.
The product of an environment ingrained
with the guilt of sin, (with) the pressure of the blame,
the shame, of the life of the tethered lamb of god,
can boil into a life of hedonistic excess
(hand that’s dealt)
The product of an environment poisoned
by violence and fear at the hands of a guardian,
can blame themselves, if they are raised to never see
the point of view, how life without abuse could be.
(hand that’s dealt)
(repeat chorus)

Pretty much the best Black/Speed Metal I've listened to since I learned about Evil Invaders and Vulture. Everything you'd love to be reminded of about this musical era is there. The influences are what you'd expect too: Motörhead, Venom, Bathory, early Slayer, Celtic Frost; aggressive vocals, tortured guitar solos, pounding drums; everything is fast, clear and still a little grimy, but without reverb cranked up to the max. Amazing band, amazing album. Odiumediae
